I am a senior citizen from the great State of Virginia and am approaching extremely rapidly my 7th decade of life. I am originally from Louisiana, born and bred, but being a G.I. brat, raised in a military family I lived in just about every point in this great nation of ours. I am married (second time around), had three children, a girl and two boys (my eldest son, Mike died in May of 2009 at the age of 44). My surviving younger son is married to a wonderful woman and he has given me four angelic grand daughters from two marriges. Two from the first and two from the second.
My wife and I live in the suburbs of Washington, DC in one of the fastest growing counties in the state. We are owned by three cats and both are still lucky enough to be gainfully employed. I work in the aerospace world and my wife works for a non-profit organization. We thank the good Lord that we have an above average income and enjoy the opportunity to travel as people in my advanced age are wont to desire.
Even though I was born in Louisiana, I hold a strong attachment to the State of Virginia. My ancestors came to this country from England to the colony of Virginia first setting foot on this land in what was then known as Kecoughtan and now as Hampton. That first arrival was in or about 1617. So we go back a long long way in this state.
This particular weblog will be used as a vehicle for my ruminations, opinions and commentary on all sorts of things, from political garbage, to sadness over the loss of a loved one, and to happy thoughts about grand children.
The blog is for my use to put into words my thoughts and concerns. In the political area, I will assault political parties, from all sides, political people from all walks and I will let the chips fall where they may. I will not appologize for my words EVER. I simply don’t really care that others may disagree with me.
You may post your impressions and commentary to my ruminations as is your desire. I will read them as I get time and if they are not too idiotic, vulgar, threatening or otherwise unfit for human visuals, I will allow them to be applied to that specific entry of mine. But bear in mind first and foremost, I make the decision on what shows up in this blog, me and me alone.
This blog will represent my opinions, observations and commentary on our so called society of American citizens. I have been known to be rather terse and opinionated. I don’t deny it and in fact, I revel in that appelation. Most of my adult life was spent just moving though the stages of life and getting ahead one small step at a time. For decades, I lived a life of quiet desperation. Not sure of who I was or frankly what I wanted to be.
Finally, I gained some age, along with some maturity of thought. Thanks to the decline of the Republican Party over the past 20 years, I was able to shake myself loose from a group whose ideology was growing farther and farther to the right of where I wanted to be and felt I needed to be to keep my sanity. So at this stage in my life, I refer to myself as an unreconstructed Independent Voter. Owing allegience to no political party or ideology.
Over the years since that time, I have observed the continued degradation of the GOP from a true conservative party to a rabid right wing group whose sole ideal in life is to grab power in any way possible, neglecting their sworn obligations to serve the nation and the people who put them in office. I have watched it move to the rabid fringes of humanity, castigating their neighbors as anti-American if they didn’t agree fully with the GOP manifestos.
Sadly I watched as the Party of Lincoln went from great republican presidents like Dwight David Eisenhower to actors playing a role (Ronald Reagan), to puppets for their handler (George W. Bush). I observed (not silently by the way) the Bush administration steadily drag this great nation into the depths of financial ruin, destroying our middle class workers by removing oversight and regulation from business and encouraging their flight to near slave labor in off shore facilities.
The republican memory is short however, and that is actually a good thing for them. You see, if they remembered all the travails that their party had heaped on the United States and it’s citizens, the knowlege would drive a normal human insane. Yet, they don’t and they continue with their approach to keeping the status quo, allowing the MARKET to regulate itself and giving the huge health insurance companies practically carte blance to continue to steal from the American public while subsequently killing over 45 thousand of them each year through denial of access to health care.
This I lay at the door of the Republicans. However, let us diferentiate to lay the blame where it truly belongs. At the door of the conservative in all their iterations, Arch Conservative, NeoConservative, Religious Conservative and the newest the TEA PARTY Conservative. All are rabid far right thuggish individuals, all share equally in the blame for the devastation that this nation currently finds itself involved in as well as the denigration of a once proud and strong political identity.
Oh I know they are trying like hell to point the finger at the new president and his administration, but that dog simply don’t hunt anymore. Pointing out their perfidy on almost a daily basis will be my strong goal in this blog.
You see, anymore, I distrust all things republican. From the Mitch McConnell’s to the John Boehners, to the Eric Cantors and even down to the two faced governor recently elected by the minority of the State of Virginia, Robert McDonnell. This I blame absolutely on the democrats and those independents who decided that they would just sit at home on election day and watch Oprah or some other mindless show on TV.
From time to time, I may quote an article that I have read and that strikes me as worthy of sharing. IF I do this, I will provide full attribution to the original author and will not slice and dice his or her words.
I plan on applying something that most in politics and the media have set aside, integrity in my posts.
Watch out folks, the road gets rocky from here on out.
Like it or not, it is what it is.
